In this day and age, we’ve all insured something for some reason. Heck, you can now even get insurance against an alien abduction! But how can we decide what’s best for us? In this episode, we’re with Sam McWilliams, a WMC Adviser discussing all things insurances, covering the different types, and why you might consider having some insurances in place for your loved ones.

We’ve all been there buying a phone, and the sales rep has suddenly managed to give you a heavily discounted mobile phone insurance premium of something like £5 per month – but do we need to take it? Some things are a little more critical than others. That’s why we’ve sat down with Sam McWilliams to guide you through the world of insurances and, as a First Time Buyer – what sort of things you should be considering. There are many types of insurance to consider. We cover them off with Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover, Income Protection, Buildings & Contents, Private Medical Insurance, Dental Cover, Travel Insurance… The list is endless.

What are insurances, and why do we need them?

Effectively, insurance is a monthly premium you pay to an insurance provider. They can cover a plethora of things such as your house, mobile phone, caravan or even your life! You can pretty much ensure almost anything. You may not need all of these things, but the one insurance that we need to have is buildings insurance. This is because if anything happens to your property, it’s all covered… God forbid, even if it’s reduced to rubble, you get all your money back from the insurer. Even though it’s a legal requirement, in reality, this is a good thing as if something did happen; you’re completely covered.
