Mortgage Heroes Podcast With Matt O’Dwyer

first time buyers

It happens with almost every house purchase. We’re not talking about someone taking a chip out the wall whilst moving furniture, though! Instead, we’re talking about all types of surveys, what they’re for and why you might need one!

In this episode, we’re joined by Matt O’Dwyer who is Surveyor himself and owns his own surveying company, Finch Surveyors Ltd! He tells us all about housing surveys and quantity surveying. So, if you’ve been trying to remortgage or buy a house recently, you know that this is your top priority.

What does this episode cover?

We work with many First Time Buyers around Warrington and many of us in the office have been through the process ourselves! We started the Mortgage Heroes Podcast so that we could go through some of the pains and questions that First Time Buyers go through on their homeownership journey. In this episode, Matt talks us through Surveys – the good, the bad and the ugly. Let’s start off nice and simple…

What is a survey?

It’s an inspection that outlines the condition of the property. A lender will generally request one to make sure the house is worth the mortgage amount you’ve applied for.

They aren’t just for the lender’s benefit though! There are different levels of surveys that you can undertake to make sure no nasty surprises crop up further down the line.

What different types of surveys are there?

To put it simply, there are 3 different levels of House Surveys:
Level 1 – Conditions Survey
Level 2 – Home Buyers Report
Level 3 – Building Survey
Each offers a different level of depth – Matt goes through this in the full episode.
